September 1st Update

UPDATE: I decided to be nice and go finish I-5, taking those photos. So I-5 is on its way up as we speak.

OK, did the drive yesterday, did everything as planned. It was lots of fun except I accidentally timed it so I got to Mukilteo at 4:30, and then had to press all the way down to Tacoma, so that was kind of a pain.

I got the drive from Tuesday posted, so all those pictures are there. The Frday drive I’ll be working on.

In other news, I got my 1963 and 1964 highway maps today, so now I’ve got a real clear indication about the ’64 highway renumbering, and at some point I’ll being researching all these roadway alignments in great depth so we can get some historical stuff up and the main highway pages up, so there’s more than photos here but a ton of Washington Highway information.

Next drive
Thursday, 9/6, I’ll clinch the following routes:

  • SR 117
  • SR 112
  • SR 113
  • SR 110

and make headway on:

  • SR 3 (SR 16 to SR 104)
  • US-101 (SR 104 to US-12)
  • US-12 (US-101 to SR 107, maybe SR 8 depending on light)

If you haven’t figured it out, this is the 2nd of 3 Olympic Peninsula Drives, and this is the big one. I’ve got to get all the way around the damn thing, incluidng SR 112, so I have to go all the wya up to Neah Bay and then double back a lot (something like 200 miles of driving in which I am doubling back or not taking pictures). This is the big mileage haul without a lot of gain, but I’ve got to do it sometime. In October I’ll get the Aberdeen and Shelton area highways.

Found out Rent-A-Wreck requires you to be 21, so I won’t be able to do a drive every week for mileage purposes (i.e. I can’t use my own car all that much…), so I’m planning every two weeks through September.
