An Update

Sorry for the lack of post for a while- I’ve been too busy driving and getting content pages up on this site to hassle with little things like that. I’ve done a lot since January. On the Wyoming front, I did the Casper drive I mentioned in the last update and then was planning on heading up to Sheridan and getting highways in that area. That didn’t end up happening because I had to go up to South Dakota, but I got a bunch of stuff in northeastern Wyoming, so that’s good.

I also went to my first road enthusiast meeting in Tulsa, and that was a ton of fun. My route there was US-87 South all the way to San Angelo, Tex. where I took US-67 “North” to Rockwall (a suburb east of Dallas), then TX 205 North to TX 78 North to Oklahoma 78, then 75 North to Tulsa. I drove some freeways in Tulsa and had a great time at the meet, and then left on US-75 North to US-400 in Kansas, then US-400 West to Granada, Colorado. I then took 385 North to 40 West home. There’s tons of signs in Texas, so my queue is still gigantic.

I’m caught up on Wyoming stuff, and the queue now stands as follows (when I did the drive in parenthesis). I normally do states in reverse alphabetical order no matter what, but I reversed that because I have a ton of Colorado stuff to get up, some of which dates back to August. Colorado was getting shafted since it starts with “C,” and Texas is going to be a project so I’d like to save that for last (something to do over the dog days of summer). I’m about halfway done with the Colorado queue as I write this. As it stands:

Colorado

  • I-70 (US-36/Byers to I-270)- 8/2009
  • US-40 (US-385 to I-70/Limon)- 2/2010
  • US-40 (US-36/Byers to I-70/Aurora)- 8/2009
  • US-36 (KS State Line to I-25)- 8/2009
  • I-25 (US-85/CO-86 to New Mexico)- 2/2010
  • US-24 (I-25 to US-285)- 11/2009
  • US-6 (NE State Line to US-385) – 10/2009
  • US-6 (I-76 Concurrency)- 4/2009
  • US-6 (I-25/6th Ave to CO-93)- 11/2009

Kansas

  • US-75 (OK State Line to US-400)- 2/2010
  • US-400 (US-75 to CO State Line)- 2/2010

New Mexico

  • I-25 (CO State Line to US-64) – 2/2010
  • US-87 (All) – 2/2010

Oklahoma

  • I-444 (All)- 2/2010
  • I-244 (All)- 2/2010
  • OK-78 (TX State Line to US-75)- 2/2010
  • US-75 (OK-78 to KS State Line)- 2/2010

South Dakota

  • US-385 (SD-89/Pringle to US-16/Sheridan Lake)- 4/2010
  • I-190 (All)- 4/2010
  • SD-89 (US-18 to US-16)- 4/2010
  • SD-34 (I-90/Sturgis to WY State Line) – 4/2010
  • US-18 (WY State Line to SD-89) – 4/2010
  • US-16 (US-385/Pringle to I-90)- 4/2010
  • US-14 (I-190 to SD-34/Whitewood)- 4/2010

Texas

  • FM 700 (Big Spring, All, if I decide to do FMs)- 2/2010
  • TX-205 (I-30 to TX-78)- 2/2010
  • US-87 (NM Line to US-67)- 2/2010
  • TX-78 (TX-205 to OK State Line)- 2/2010
  • US-67 (US-87 to TX-205)- 2/2010

So that’s a lot. Back on the Wyoming front, I’ll in all likelihood be going back to Idaho for some part of the summer, so on the way out I’m going to clinch the US-191/WYO 150/WYO 376/WYO 430 part and on the way back do the US-189/WYO 28/WYO 220/WYO 235/WYO 350/WYO 351, which should give me a clinched Western Wyoming. Over Labor Day I can do another big drive like I did last year in the northern part, and I should have the highway system wrapped up over Labor Day. I’ll take a couple months off before announcing my next state, which in all likelihood will be where I go to grad school. The weird thing there is I’m looking at a few grad schools in Texas, and there’s no way I’m driving every mile of state highway in Texas in two years, so if that happens I’m not sure what I’ll do. If I’m in Dallas I may do Oklahoma, and if I’m in College Station I have no idea what I’ll do (Louisiana maybe, but that’s pretty far from Louisiana)- maybe all the US Routes and Interstates or something, but that seems kind of lame.
