A couple blocks later, we’re reminded to stay on 896 south to get to I-95.

As we approach DE 4 and DE 279, trucks are advised to stay on Elkton Rd and not get on 4/896. Trucks are prohibited on that route because it is a fairly easy shunpike route to get around the sole Delaware Turnpike tollbooth on I-95.

This is dirty. Stay straight for unsigned DE 279, a quick spur to MD 279. Follow that to I-95, get on I-95 north, and give the Delaware Turnpike $4. If you turn left here, you can access 95 north more quickly and avoid the toll. Staying straight for I-95 south makes sense.
