Immediately after SR 190, turn left for the locally-maintained State Line Road to follow the most direct path from Death Valley to Pahrump and Las Vegas, Nev. With all the state highways in the area it’s kind of amusing that the most direct route from the major National Park to the big city uses a local road.

A few miles later, we’re randomly greeted with a mileage sign. Nine miles to 178 west, ten miles to 178 east, and 66 miles to Interstate 15.

Follow 178 west to Badwater Basin (via a local road), the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere. 178 east joins 127 south for a mile into Shoshone.
