U.S. Route 85B, US-2/US-85 to ND-1804

Location: 57th St NW and US 2, Williams Cty

Reassurance shield as US 85B begins. 85B is one of the weirder routes – first off, it’s not totally clear what the “B” stands for. It’s also a weird joint NDDOT/Williams County venture that is intended to be a temporary bypass of Williston to the east until one day a full expressway is built. Given how the demand for oil has leveled off here since it was first posted in 2013, I expect this to be a “temporary” route that sticks around for a long time or vanishes entirely.

Location: 57th St NW and 134th Ave NW, Williams Cty

Anyway, the road tapers down to two lanes pretty quickly as we approach CR 9.
